From Dorothy Haynes, TLHA Neighborhood Watch Captain:
I spoke with the Clay County Sheriff yesterday evening about suspicious activity in our neighborhood so just wanted our members to be aware if you see anything suspicious nearby, and let them know.
We were outside yesterday evening, and were approached by a pushy African-American man selling cleaning products. We informed him that we weren’t interested in his products, and due to the information we had heard from other subdivisions in the Kearney/Liberty area we advised him to leave our neighborhood. I called the sheriff on behalf of our Neighborhood Watch program because I was concerned having heard of recent robberies in the area connected to supposed cleaning product sales people. The sheriff department came to check them out, and I received a call back from the sheriff stating their company checked out to be a legitimate company, however, the sheriff told me the sheriff department would provide extra surveillance in our neighborhood for the next couple of nights.
I was suspicious because information provided by police officers in one of the subdivisions just west Liberty had warned their neighborhood to beware of cleaning product salespeople scoping out neighborhoods then returning later to rob them. I have also heard from friends and family living in other subdivisions in the Kearney area they were supposedly making deliveries after dark to a house that was dark and appeared no one home. There may not be a connection to the incident last night, but I thought it was worth bringing to our member’s attention.
